Khiri Travel Founders
Willem Niemeijer and Frans Betgem are the founders of Khiri Travel. Both are still very much involved in growing the business. They ended up in Asia in the mid-80s. By that time, both were already working for years in the travel industry in their native Holland, and spend lots of time traveling the globe. The two met up by chance in Nong Khai , on the Thai-Lao border, in 1989, and friendship struck off immediately. The decision was made to catch a boat accross the Mekong and explore Laos. This was a formative experience for the start of a business relation. The early 1990's saw Indochina opening up. Cambodia held their first elections after the murderous Khmer Rouge regime and years of civil war, the US was about to lift its embargo on Vietnam and recluse Laos was slowly opening up for travelers. Frans and Willem decided it was time for a specialized travel company for the region, that had passion for travel as its foundation. Khiri Travel was born, in a modest hotel room in Bangkok. Our business has grown and it couldn't be done without the people that work so hard to create life-time experiences for our guests. Below, we are proud to introduce our office staff.
Willem Niemeijer
A consummate entrepreneur, Willem is often on the road promoting current businesses and exploring possibilities for new ventures. While not traveling, he lives in Nonthaburi with his wife Kritsana and their two lovely daughters, Marsha and Naomi.
Frans Betgem
In charge of the product, Frans is often seen scouting new border crossings and pioneering new destinations and routes. When not on the road, he calls Chiang Mai his home, where he lives with his wife and a menagerie of animals.
Our Office Team
Linda graduated in 2006 and joined Khiri Travel immediately afterwards. She used to be a full time volunteer for Voice of Democracy(VOD), Cambodian Center for Human Right (CCHR) in 2004.
In her free time Linda likes traveling, doing some sport and making fun with friends.
Sihun was born in the Kompong Charm province, 1986. After her graduation in accounting she worked as a English teacher at the BT International school in Phnom Penh. In March 2008 she joined Khiri Travel, where she works in the reservation department.
"Vanthou" comes from Kampong Thom province, where he was born in 1985. After finishing his bachelor of Education from the Institute of foreign Languages he joined a class in English for tourism in Phnom Penh. In 2008 Vanthou joined our team in the Phnom Penh office, where he is working for the operations department in Phnom Penh.
Sam was born in Siem Reap, 1974. With tourism just starting, Sam had the foresight to become involved in travel by following the national Guide Training Course in 1995. Since then he has constantly updated his knowledge of the burgeoning travel industry in Cambodia by following seminars and traveling extensively. Khiri Travel is proud to have Sam as partner and General Manager of Khiri Travel (Cambodia) Ltd. since its inception in 2000.
"May" a Siem Reap native, was born in 1983 and started working for our Khiri Travel office in Siem Reap in Cambodia on September 2006. In the past she was active as a volunteer for the Korean - Cambodia Tourism Promotion toward Poverty Alleviation in Siem Reap - Angkor, Cambodia (STEP) as well as a receptionist for a tour agency.
"G-Ra" was born in Siem Reap in 1983 and is studying Tourism & Hospitality management at the Angkor University in Siem Reap. Before he started working in the reservation department of Khiri Travel Cambodia on March 2008, he was employed as a receptionist at the Pavilion resort in Siem Reap.
"Sokun" was born in Siem Reap, 1972. He finished his tourism studies with the Ministry of Tourism in Siem Reap. After that he used to work with the Phnom Penh tourism office. In 2008 Rotha joined our team in the Seam Reap office, where he is responsible for the operations in Siem Reap and Western Cambodia.
Mut was born in 1987 in the province of Siem Reap, which is in the north of the Kingdom of Cambodia.
Mut was at the Paul Dubrule Hotel and Tourism School and is now studying software programing at the Build Bright University in Siem Reap. Mut works for Khiri Travel Cambodia since the end of 2008.
Channaly was born in Luang Prabang, 1980. She studied English at the Teacher Training College and after graduation worked for one and a half year at Pansea Phou Vao Hotel. She has been working for Khiri Travel's Luang Prabang office since July 2004.
"Ting" was born in Luang Prabang, 1987. She is still a student, but started working for Khiri Travel's Luang Prabang office in June 2005 as an Administration Officer.
Bounma was born in Huaphan, 1978. He studied English at the Teacher Training College and worked 6 years as a teacher for Viengxay and the TTE school. He started working for Khiri Travel's Luang Prabang office since February 2008.
"Air" was born near Pakse in a small village called Phone Sa Ad, 1980. She studied English at the TTC (Teacher Training Collage) in Pakse. After his successful graduation in Business Administration he started his career in the toursim industry as tour leader and tour guide in the Champasak province. Since 2009 Phouvanh is responsible to run the Khiri Travel Laos Pakse office, which oversees all activities in the South of Laos.
Chansamone was born in Laos, in 1961. After her studies in Vietnam, which made her her speak Vietnamese fluently, she studied English for 2 years in Canberra, Australia. She has been active in tourism in Laos for more than 10 years. Working for Khiri Travel since 2000, she is now principal partner in our local venture, Khiri Travel (Laos) Ltd.
"Singha" was born in Vang Vieng, 1977. He studied at the Rattaya Administration College Teacher and after graduation he worked three years for Lanexang Tour & Travel. He started working for Khiri Travel in November 2006.
"Nith" a Vientiane native works for Khiri Travel in Vientiane since December 2007 as Accounting Manager.
Sone was born in 1985 at Nadeua village in Laos' Bolikhamxay Province. After his 3 year training at the teacher's training school, Sone started to work in Vientiane's growing tourism industry as a tour guide for a known tour operator in Vientiane. In 2008 Sone came to Khiri Travel where he became an operation officer and tour guide in our main office in Vientiane, Laos capital city.
Khun "Tik" is a Vientiane native and was born in May 1987. She learned her computer skills at the Laos American college and studied English at the Laos Korean college. She enforces our sales/reservation team of Khiri Travel Laos since December 2008.
Co-founder of Khiri Travel, Willem's career in the travel industry started in the early 1980's, combining travel in Southeast Asia with a job at a large student travel agency in The Netherlands. Working for a local travel agent in Bangkok in 1987 gave him the opportunity to further his knowledge of running a company in this diverse region. Leading the enthusiastic and very talented staff of Khiri Travel's offices and other ventures in the region and beyond is his passion.
"Mam", proud mother of a young son, has a 7 years career in air ticketing. She joined Khiri Travel in 2004 and, as part of the Bangkok reservations team, is in charge of all flight reservations and ticketing.
"Luck" is from Bangkok, born in 1977. She received a Bachelor Degree of Arts. Luck loves travel, and decided to pursue her career in tourism. After graduation in 1999, she joined Khiri Travel and now leads our team of reservation staff in Bangkok.
After years of traveling throughout Asia, Koen settled in Thailand in 1987. He is married, proud father of two sons, and became grandfather in 2005. Koen joined Khiri Travel in 2003 where he is responsible for the field-staff and our safety policy. Besides his full time job with Khiri Travel, Koen is an active cartoonist/illustrator.
Issara, or Id, was born in 1975 in Nakorn Sawan province. She joined Khiri Travel in 1998 as assistant accountant and now is the leading team accountant at the head office in Bangkok.
Mayura, or Nuch, was born in 1977 in Mahasarakham province, Northeastern Thailand. Her love for travel inspires her daily since she joined our reservations team at Khiri Travel Bangkok in the beginning of 2004.
"Kiki" was born in Phuket, on the west coast of Southern Thailand. She holds a Bachelor degree of Arts & Psychology. She loves reading and painting and also loves the world of traveling so she joined Khiri Travel in October 2004 as a tour coordinator. Kiki now leads here own team of Tour Coordinators.
"Kik" was born in Uthaithani, 1982. She studied BBA-Accounting at Suandusit Rajabwat University and started to work for Khiri Travel in 2005.
"Kay" comes from Sukhothai, one of Thailand oldest cities and was born in 1979. She joined Khiri Travel after her graduation in 2003 and is responsible for the administration.
"Nen" was born in Bangkok, 1975. After her graduation in 2003 from the Thai Chamber of the Commercial University she started to work for Khiri Travel and joined our reservations team in Bangkok.

Thantika or Nham comes from Nakhornsrithammarat, Southern Thailand. Nham joined Khiri Travel in April 2006 after working at Amari Airport Hotel as a Guest Relation Officer.
She's serviceminded and enjoys dealing with many people.
Tuk was born in Chainat, central Thailand. She loves travelling because it is a good way to gain more experience. Tuk joined our reservation team in 2006.
Ple (Apple) is her name. She has extensive work experience in tourism and joined our team early 2006. Right now Ple works for the Website Development department.
In her free time she enjoys travelling around Thailand.
Nim comes from Bangkok. She majored in Tourism and Hotel Studies and joined Khiri in December 2006, her first job with a travel agent.
Yui graduated from Suan Sunandha Rajabhat University. She joined Khiri Travel in November 2006.
Koy was born in Lopburi, but now lives in Bangkok with her husband and 2 year old son, Bas. She joined Khiri Travel in September 2006.

Koy (Pinky) has 8 years experience in the Airline service industry as a supervisor. She joined Khiri Travel in November 2007. Due to her positive thinking she likes to look at the world in a 'pink way'.
Kunlanart, or Pum, was born in 1975 in Nakorn Pathom province. She has joined Khiri Travel in 2007 as assistant accountant at the head office in Bangkok.
Maneerat Kumchareon (Kaew) was born in Bkk, 1983. She graduated in tourism from Rajamangkala University and joined Khiri Travel in August 2007.
Thanpitcha or Tuktik was born in Roi-Ed, 1984. She graduated from Sripatum University and joined Khiri Travel in March 2007 as Assistant Tour Coordinator at the head office in Bangkok.
Inn was born in Phitsanulok. She loves travelling very much. Inn has joined Khiri in August 2007 as a Contracting Officer.
"Aor" was born in Surin province. She has joined Khiri in January 2008 as an operation officer.
The co-founder of Khiri Travel, Frans is a veteran tour leader of more than 50 trips throughout Southeast Asia and Australia. Frans actively joined Khiri Travel in 1996 and has been the driving force behind our many off-the-beaten track itineraries. He is often seen scouting new border crossings and pioneering new destinations and routes. When not on the road, Frans calls Chiang Mai his home.
Philip is our field operations manager, always roaming around. He has been living in Thailand since 1989 and was working as tourleader around South-East Asia.
In 2007 Philip joined our team.
He's now happily married and has 2 lovely kids.
Pim was born in Lampang. She received a Master Degree of Business Administration at Chiang Mai University in 2005. Pim was working as an operation officer of Phuchan Travel before joining with Khiri Travel in May 2007 as a tour coordinator.
Her nickname is "Vanda". She left her home in Lampang, the city well-known for its horse carriage, to study french literature in Chiang Mai University. She has joined Khiri Travel Chiang Mai in June 2007.
"Gloy" was born in Chiang Mai, 1984. She graduated with an English Major from Chiang Mai University in 2007. She started working for Khiri Travel in April, 2008. In her free time, Gloy likes traveling, reading fairy tale books, and chatting with friends.Â
Let’s call her “Pat”. She’s a lovely girl and was born in Chiang Mai. She graduated with a Bachelor degree from Chiang Mai University (CMU). Pat has begun to work for Khiri Travel in May 2007 as operations officer.
Xinh was born in Danang and studied at the Tourism Department of Danang University. She worked as Sales and Marketing director at the Van Loi Hotel in Hoi An before joining us. She runs our office in Danang and she does an excellent job.
Linh was born in Hung Yen Province and studied at the Tourism College in Hanoi. After her graduation in tourism she joined Khiri Travel Viet Nam in December 2007, where she oversees the flight booking department. Linh loves music and sports.
Bac, a Ha Tay province native, joined Khiri Travel in April 2008 after her graduation in Economics at the University of Hanoi. She works in the accounting department.
Dung comes from Hung Yen province, where she was born in 1981. She studied Economics at the University of Hanoi. After her graduation she joined Khiri Travel Viet Nam, where she is the head of the Accounting Department.
Thuong comes from Bac Ciang province and was born in 1982. She studied at the College of Foreign Studies before joining Khiri Travel in January 2007. Thuong is in charge of the Operations Department and meets most of our guests in Hanoi.
Hien, a Ha Tay Province native, studied at the Open University. Hien works in the Reservation Department of Khiri Travel Viet Nam since April 2007.
