Our Field Team (Guides)
Ratanak started as a history teacher at a public high school in Phnom Penh and continued as an assistant coordinator on a UNDP project before becoming a free-lance guide. He has been guiding our clients around Angkor for the last 3 years.
Maray, a native from Siem Reap, has been a guide with Khiri Travel for 2 years. An outgoing person, he's loved by groups. Besides his work, Maray's life-long passion is cock fighting (the non-lethal variety).
A Luang Prabang native, Sompong was educated in Vientiane. When he started as a guide, no official guide training was available. He learned English and taught himself people skills and is now one of Luang Prabang's most knowledgeable guides. He has written a book on Luang Prabang temple murals. Sompong has been working for Khiri Travel since 1998 and is also active in training a new generation of guides.
Chan was born in 1965, Chiang Mai. Graduating from the official guide training course of the TAT (Tourism Authority of Thailand), he worked as a free-lance trekking guide. Chan joined Khiri Travel in 1995 and has since become one of the company's most senior and well-loved guides.
"Ruchi" was born in Bangkok, 1958, and went to highschool in England. She has been working as a Chiang Mai guide with Khiri Travel for 5 years.
"Chart" was born in 1967 in Chiang Rai province. He has been working for 9 years as a guide. He studied Buddhism and is an expert on temples.
Angela was born in Bangkok, 1964.( She graduated from a private college. (For the last 10 years Angela has been active as a tour guide in Central and North Thailand. (She is service-minded and likes meeting people from different cultures.( In her free time she likes exercising and reading.
Tong was born in Bangkok, 1957.( He graduated from Ramkhamheng, Bachelor of Law.( At first he worked as a forestry officer in North East Thailand.( For the last 12 years Tong has been active as a tour guide all over Thailand. He also has some guide experience in Laos and Myanmar.( As a guide he enjoys having the opportunity to show the clients his country and its culture.( In his free time he likes to drive to other provinces and do some exploring.(
Joe grew up in Bangkok and graduated 25 years ago with a degree in chemistry. However soon afterwards he started his career as a tourguide. Since then he has led countless groups both Thai and non-Thai, outbound as well as inbound. He is service-minded, loves to take care of his clients and therefore sees himself as a ‘small ambassador’ of Thailand.
Pang was born in Supanburi, but grew up in Bangkok.( She graduated from Bangkok Technical Campus in 1999.( Her first job was as a Guest Service Agent for a hotel.( She has been working as a tourguide for 5 years, mainly in central Thailand, but also as a tourleader in Vietnam.( What she likes about her job is the freedom and the chance to show Thai culture to her clients.
After finishing secondary school in Chonburi Woody went to Bangkok and studied at Ramkhamheng University. He graduated in 1995.
He started his career as an office worker, but soon preferred working outdoors and joined a guide training course. He received his guide license in 1999. In his free time he likes to go trekking around Thailand, especially around Chiang Dao.
As a tourguide he has an excellent opportunity to show his tourists the real Thailand.
Koy was born in Bangkok in 1971. She graduated from Ramkhamheng in 2000 with a Major in English and political science. Her first job was as a Guest Service Agent for a hotel. She has been working as a tourguide for 8 years, all over Thailand, but also as a tourleader with 1 tour each in Laos and Cambodia. Although in the beginning she mainly had Thai clients, by now she has experience with nationalities from all over the world. In 2004 she got her first job for Khiri Travel. What she likes about her job is travelling, meeting local people in new places and the chance to show Thai culture to her clients.
"Mai" was born in 1976 in Bangkok. She got her major in English in 1998 and has been working for Khiri Travel since the end of 2003, both as a guide and a tour leader for UK groups.
"Eng" was born in Korat, which is also known as Nakhon Ratchasima, in 1974. After graduating in 1994, she started working as a guide in 2003. Since then she has conducted tours for Khiri Travel as a tour leader for UK groups.
"Ying" was born in Bangkok in 1974. After graduating from Thammasat University she took a course in tourism at Silpakorn University in 1997. She has been working for Khiri Travel since 2004, both as a guide and a tour leader for UK groups.
"Bee" was born in Bangkok in 1972. She received a B.A. in Hotel and Tourism Management and has been working as both guide and tour leader with Khiri Travel for almost 10 years. Bee is seen traveling all over Thailand and is getting rave reviews from all clients: whether it's from families or from groups of seniors from Canada and the US.
Waew got her BA from Assumption University, major in English, minor hotel management. She started her career working as a secretary, but that didn't last long. 8 years ago she learned the do's and don'ts of being a guide at Khiri Travel and has become very experienced indeed. In future Waew doesn't expect any changes, because with this job she has a great opportunity to meet people from all over the world.
