RT and our support for the less fortunate
We support individual initiatives that promote local art and crafts, and projects involving the disabled and less fortunate:

DOs and DON'Ts
- Dress modest and appropriate. The tropical climate notwithstanding, dress you would wear on a hot day in your home country is not necessarily acceptable here. Modest dress will result in easier contact with the locals, earning more respect and getting less hassle.
- Always ask before taking pictures of local people. No matter how traditional and exotic some local people may look, they are individuals who just may not like to have their photo taken. Follow up on a promise to send pictures (we're happy to assist!).
- Do not give money, candy or other gifts to children. It encourages begging. If you would like to give something, we're happy to make suggestions for needy schools, orphanages or projects.
- Learn a few words in the local language and try to interact. Taking the trouble to learn even a few words will earn respect and break the ice meeting with locals. Ask your guide for a word a day!
- Do not litter. Sometimes local communities aren't that active in protecting their own environment, as they have more basic issues to deal with. Still, make a difference by setting the right example and dispose of rubbish in an appropriate place.
